Our Story

Grant first saw the potential for electric mopeds in New Zealand while he was travelling in South East Asia and China, sourcing equipment and furnishings for large hotel chains.

I saw how well they worked in large cities and had the idea that it would benefit the New Zealand environment to offer a strong alternative to the various fossil fuel versions we already have here," he says."As we see the reliability of electric transport growing, higher population density in cities, especially around apartments where parking is scarce, and with the rising costs of fossil fuels, and the need to reduce CO2 levels, I searched for a viable electric solution for us here in New Zealand.

I wanted something what would best suit our geography, environment, and communities.”

His research led him to the Voltrix electric moped.

In 2022, he imported the first Voltrix moped to New Zealand so he could test it on our roads and in our climate. Growing up on a farm where he tinkered with his family’s farm bikes, and with a love of road cycling that continues to this day, Grant knew how to put the moped through its paces on the streets and country roads close to his home in Christchurch, as well as being able to put his mechanical skills to good use checking and measuring the physical impact on the bike itself. The trials turned out even better than he had expected.

The benefits of having an electric moped are huge! It not only has minimal environmental impact, it costs hardly anything to run, and doesn't need servicing like other mopeds. What really surprised me was the ease of getting around."

For example, recently I had a meeting that I had to get to quickly. The Christmas traffic through Riccarton was congested and slow so instead of taking my car I took my Voltrix. I was there in minutes. And, when I got there, I didn’t need to spend time looking for a park - I could park right outside. It was fantastic."

Come and talk to Grant, test ride a Voltrix, and see how easy these mopeds are to get around on for yourself.
